Feeling like you don’t want to do anything from time to time, just because you want to reduce stress and pressure on you is not a bad thing, and it can be a beneficial habit that boosts your productivity and changes your mood. But when you have that kind of feeling all the time and you are always letting down what you are supposed to do or what you wish to complete or achieve… that’s called laziness!
First of all, let me tell you that you have nothing to worry about. Laziness has nothing to do with mental or even psychological health issues, and anyone can suffer from it. It’s simply a habit that you got used to, or maybe addicted to… yes, it’s the addiction of the fake feeling of being free and safe from what “work” can come up with as stress, anxiety, and fear of failure...
Now let’s see how to overcome this annoying habit, and break the handcuffs of laziness.
Admit that you are lazy!
You can’t even start to think about overcoming laziness if you don’t really admit that you are lazy. Just say it, and admit to yourself that you have this bad habit called laziness, and stop looking for arguments that make you feel that everything is OK, every time you start to think about making the first step to stop being lazy.
Stop telling yourself that you are just tired, and you are just avoiding the psychological harm that can be caused by working hard. Stop saying that you can’t or aren’t supposed to do the tasks, which you actually know deeply inside, that you are completely able to complete them and they really need to be done.
From now on, every time you start getting those negative thoughts, remember what you just read here and immediately stop thinking like that and admit it: “I’m getting lazy!!!”. It’s a simple thing to do, but it’s really the most important and basic key to overcoming not only laziness…but every bad habit you can think about. You just need to be brave and face yourself with the truth.
Find motivation
For every change you are willing to make in your life you will need to find motivation and identify the reasons why you must take action. In our case, there are many reasons that you can think about to get or keep motivated. They can be the bad effects of laziness on your mental and psychological health or the benefits of being productive and achieving your tasks.
Yes, work can be hard sometimes and can make you feel under great pressure, which can negatively affect your mood and feelings for sure. But you have to keep in mind that laziness is way more harmful! We all know those feelings of being guilty, empty and ashamed we get when we are lazy and not doing what we should do.
Aren’t those feelings negatively affecting your mood too? No …? You are just lying to yourself about that! Of course, they are harming you, and they can turn up over time, to serious mental health issues such as depression. So your motivation can be the freedom from these extremely annoying feelings that are killing you slowly inside.
Your motivation can also be the benefits you will get from getting your tasks done. For example, you can think about the sweet feeling of accomplishment you get after doing something, about the money or goods you will earn, about the loved ones you can make happy, about the healthy body you can get etc.
Don’t overthink
Don’t think about all the tasks you have to do at the same time, and avoid being overwhelmed. Just focus on what you are going to do in the present moment and don’t get stuck on thinking about all the details of the work you are going to do.
Just get started and everything will go smoothly if you keep your mind clear. And always remember that overthinking is only a distraction and will not get you anywhere. In fact, it’s one of the biggest ways to lose motivation and become lazy.
Start with easy tasks
Don’t try to jump out of bed and directly try to save the world from climate change, become a millionaire, or find a cure for AIDS… you will get overwhelmed and you will give up immediately. You have to start with the easiest tasks which can give you great self-confidence and motivation to keep up and start achieving the hardest tasks.
Stay around motivated and productive people
Your environment has a big impact on your attitude. If you are surrounded by lazy people who always talk about how work is hard and how it’s not worth it, whatever what you try to do to keep motivated, they will easily get you down over time. While productive and positive people, just by their behavior, the way of talking, achievements stories can change your attitude and give you the power to face your laziness and get things done you too.
